Born in Damascus -Syria 1979 where she started studying cello at the Sulhi al-Wadi music institute.Graduated in 2003 from the Higher Institute of Music with a degree in Cello and Ear Training.

In 2009, she got a Diploma in “Musical Formation” from the National Conservatory of Lyon-France.
She has participated as a cellist with the children orchestra of the music institute and then at the Syrian National Symphony Orchestra (since its foundation 1993)  in its most concerts under the baton of several well-known conductors, in Syria and abroad with which she played also as a soloist.

She participated with the Youth Orchestra of the Higher Institute of Music (2006) in The Young Euro Classical Music Festival, Berlin-Germany.She took part in some workshops as “Maggio Formazione” in Florence-Italy in 2006. She participated in several workshops in Kodaly Music Educational System –Lebanon (2007-2011).

She was a member of “Violoncellisimo” cello group and Damascus Baroque Soloists with which she has performed many concerts and workshops (2009-2011). She played also in some operas as “Zenobia” 2008 (the 1st creation).

She put the solfege curriculum of the Higher Institute of Music since 2004, and Sulhi Al-Wadi Music Institute (2011-2014). Since her graduation (2003), she was teaching cello at the Sulhi Al-Wadi Music Institute and Ear training at the Higher Institute of Music.

Founder and instructor, since 2010, of “Kiddy Orchestra”; a project unique and avant-garde in Syria for children 3-7 years. In June 2015, they presented their 5th annual concert.

In October 2017, Karoun started her “Kiddy Orchestra” again in various places in the North of the Netherlands, including the “Cooperatie Kunstbedrijven Westerkwartier”.

She played twice by the WDR- Funkhausorchester in 2016-2017, Cologne, Germany. Sheparticipated at the EU-Terpe project 2018 in Italy, Spain and Bosnia and played with SEPO-Syrian Expat Philharmonic Orchestra in various European countries (2017-2018). Guest cellist with Deutsch-Syrische Philharmoniker DSP in Bremen.

Karoun has been playing in various orchestras and ensembles in the Netherlands since 2016.

In July 2018, Karoun obtained the Master Diploma ILT-Cello at the Prince Claus Conservatory in Groningen.

She played with the Cello Class Ensemble of the Prince Claus Conservatory in the Cello Biennial 2016 and in the Oosterpoort 2017. She is a production assistant and educational assistant with the “Hello Cello Orchestra” since 2016.

Karoun is a cello teacher and a co-leader at the “Hello Cello Orchestra Groningen” and September she has been training New Life Choir Groningen since 2018.

She plays with her husband Rani Elias (trumpet) and Iranian pianist Setareh Nafisi concerts under the name of MezzopTrio.
